Historic Hudson

Historic Hudson — completed project
The story of this home

We had always loved Washington Street. It's one of those special Hudson streets where you can walk to restaurants, shops, and everything happening downtown. When we found this early-1900s home, we fell in love with its original character, but years of being used as a two-family residence had left it with an awkward layout and a home that no longer felt connected.

Our goal was to make the house feel whole again. We removed a rear staircase that cut the house off from the backyard, moved walls, reconfigured the floor plan, and transformed two small kitchens, tiny bathrooms, and undersized bedrooms into a functional single-family home, with 4 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.

Throughout the renovation, we preserved the details that made us fall in love with the house in the first place. The original fireplaces, with their carved wood surrounds and tile, remained, and we stripped the old-growth hardwood trim back to its natural state rather than making it look new. The dings, scrapes, and imperfections accumulated over more than a century became part of the story.

Upstairs, we created a library filled with more than 500 books and transformed the unfinished attic into a tucked-away retreat for sleeping, reading, writing, creating, yoga, and meditation. The finished home feels layered and lived-in. Fully restored for modern life without erasing the history that made it special.
